Thank you for being here.
Hi, I’m still Shawn and today I want to show you how to set up an audio track in Cakewalk. At this point you have Cakewalk installed and working well with your audio devices. You have a SI-Drum track set up and now you’re ready to record your rhythm guitar or whatever. Once you have an audio track setup it’s just a matter of plugging in your instrument or mic, hitting record and making some noise.
So let’s get started!
If you just got done with (How to Install and Use SI Drum Kit) and you saved it you have a project with your drummer all set up. If not that’s fine, just add an SI-Drum track to this project when you’re done and save it.
First open your project.
Then let’s do a little clean up.
I’m going to close all the different modules that take up space but I don’t need all the time. Like the Tempo Track on the top and the Help module and such. On the Far Right at the top of the media module hit the double arrows and that will close the whole section. Do the same on the far left to close that module and at the bottom of the Tempo track just grab it and pull up until it’s closed. It’s not necessary, I just like lots of open space to work in.
Go to the top left menu: Insert/Audio Track.
Right above your tracks you’ll see this drop down menu. Set it to All.
Then Grab the bottom of your audio track and pull it down until you can see all of the controls, like so.
You’ll see a drop down menu for both inputs and outputs. The output should be on Master but the input will be different for everybody so you have to know what recording device you’re planning to use and select it.
Once you have the right audio device setup you can hit the record button in your audio track and you are ready to record.
Then hit the main record button on top and now you are recording.
It’s that easy. If you have a drum track ready you can record along with it and you’re one step closer to recording your first song. Next: How to Set up and Use a Microphone.
